March 4th to 7th, 2011
The road to Coroico was fine except for the crazy drivers overtaking inside tunnels and really just anytime on the winding mountain road. It was ‘fun’ going through clouds. A few hundred yards before the hotel a small mudslide had blocked the road and about a dozen local people were shoveling. We took an alternative road to the hotel, at times narrower than our car (sorry car paint), muddy and full of potholes. The hotel had a large swimming pool, ping-pong, pool, foosball and a frog game (the one you have to toss a coin and get it into the mouth of the metal frog). Despite our extensive use of insect repellents all of us ended with countless bites all over our bodies. There was really not much to do outside the hotel because all the roads and trails were so wet, so we spent all day playing with M and T. It felt like a vacation and the kids enjoyed it more than the usual time on the road. We even had time to use the extension tubes we had bought to take close-up pictures! E thinks we need to go slower and take an additional few months to complete the trip…
