Fort Worth, Texas a Las Vegas, New Mexico: 7 hs
Desde Houston nos llevó dos días llegar hasta Santa Fe, New Mexico. Nuestra primera parada fue Fort Worth, cerquita de Dallas. Esta parece ser la ciudad de los cowboys. Todos se paseaban con los sombreros y las botas de cowboys. Recorrimos la parte histórica y fuimos a dos shows, uno de trucos de un cowboy y otro un rodeo. Los shows no eran tan buenos, pero los chicos se divirtieron. El segundo tramo nos llevó por el noroeste de Texas hasta New Mexico donde visitamos la histórica ruta 66 (la llaman la ruta madre). Visitamos un museo de autos antiguos y carteles de los años 50 cuando la ruta 66 era la estrella. Esa noche llegamos a un pueblito llamado Las Vegas (nada que ver con la ciudad de Las Vegas de casinos y shows en Nevada). Parecía un pueblito fantasma, sobre una ruta de pueblitos y ruinas indígenas camino a Santa Fe. Jugamos un poco en el parque, cenamos y nos fuimos a descansar después de dos días agotadores en la ruta.
Rodeo and Route 66
Fort Worth is the capital of Rodeo in Texas and people take it seriously. Cowboy boots and hats abound. We went directly to the Stockyards where the action is (a bit too set up for tourists but fun). We saw the famous Texas longhorns (cows) and a live show and rodeo at the Cowtown Coliseum. We saw all sorts of tricks, from shooting balloons backwards looking through a mirror to serious bull riding. M and T had a fun, action-packed day and fell asleep in the car while we searched for a place to sleep on the way to Santa Fe, New Mexico. The following day we drove through sections of historic Route 66, visited an old car museum, took pictures of route 66 signs and stopped in the small town of Las Vegas (NM) for the night. After a long days drive played games at the park till dark.
